With many young people left vulnerable due to the coronavirus pandemic and the number of youths claiming unemployment benefits continuing to rise, Magic Radio has today announced it will be supporting The Prince’s Trust on its new fundraising campaign to help change young lives across the UK. According to recent research from The Prince’s Trust, more than a quarter of 16-25 year olds (29%) feel their future career prospects have already been damaged by the pandemic, while 46% say that finding a job now feels “impossible”.

The activity will be spearheaded by Magic Radio and will air across other popular Bauer Radio stations including KISS, Planet Rock and Scala Radio. The campaign will include special guest appearances, interviews and competitions with exclusive prizes provided by Prince’s Trust Corporate partners, including PlayStation, Cunard, The Watches of Switzerland and National Grid. Together, they will aim to raise awareness of the issues young people are currently facing and ask listeners to be the turning point by donating to The Prince’s Trust. The campaign will air across September and early October, culminating in a Prince’s Trust Day on October 15th on Magic Radio.

Listeners can expect to hear from a whole host of household names across film, TV, music, comedy, sport and science, with Magic Radio seeing appearances from Geri Horner, Tim Peake, Dame Helen Mirren, Richard E Grant, Sir Ben Kingsley, Helen McCrory, Dominic West, Damian Lewis, Nile Rogers and Omid Djalili. Similarly, Planet Rock will hand their mic over to the likes of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne and Mike Rutherford, while KISS will hear directly from young beneficiaries of the charity.

On Scala Radio, Stephen Fry will be holding a special one-off two-hour programme titled ‘Stephen Fry’s Showstoppers on Scala Radio: In partnership with The Prince’s Trust’ where he will open up about his love of classical music and his passion as an ambassador for The Trust.

In addition to this campaign with Bauer Radio, The Trust has also launched a ‘Get Hired Jobs Board’ and ‘Coronavirus Support Hub’ as part of its response to the pandemic; helping to match young people with employers and provide them with the right guidance and resources. With The Trust recently announcing that it has now helped one million young people since HRH Prince of Wales started the charity in 1976 – helping more than 70,000 young in the last year alone – it aims to continue to give young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilise their lives.

Tony Moorey, Magic Radio Content Director said: “Magic Radio have worked with The Prince’s Trust with their Palace to Palace event for the last 12 years and we are proud to continue to be supporting them at this crucial time, when an alarming proportion of young people are experiencing more anxiety and fears about their future than ever before. Joining together with Scala Radio, Planet Rock and KISS will let us reach over 10 million listeners in the UK and help inspire and support young people during these challenging times.”

Jonathan Townsend, Chief Executive of The Prince’s Trust, said: “This campaign could not be coming at a more critical time for young people across the UK, who need support and hope in the face of the pandemic, the economic crisis, and rising youth unemployment. We are incredibly proud of our partnership with Bauer Radio, and we are fortunate enough to have had the support of Magic Radio for more than a decade. It is at times like these that our partnerships can truly make a difference to young lives.”

About The Prince’s Trust

The Prince’s Trust helps young people all over the UK to build their confidence and skills and supports them into jobs, education and training. Founded by The Prince of Wales in 1976, the charity supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed, struggling at school and at risk of exclusion.

Many of the young people helped by The Trust’s youth support workers and mentors are in or leaving care, facing issues such as homelessness, mental health problems, or have been in trouble with the law.

The courses offered by The Trust give young people the practical and financial support needed to stabilise their lives, helping develop self-esteem and skills for work. Three in four young people supported by The Prince’s Trust move into work, education or training.

The Trust has helped over a million young people to date. Further information about The Prince’s Trust is available at princes-trust.org.uk or on 0800 842 842.
