Cool FM’s breakfast team will embark on its most physical challenge ever in a bid to raise vital funds for disadvantaged children in Northern Ireland.

This summer Pete, Paulo and Rebecca will swap their mics for paddles as they prepare to paddleboard across the Irish sea in support of Cash for Kids.

The 22 mile crossing from Portpatrick to Donaghadee will be shared equally by the breakfast trio, with the entire coast to coast journey streamed live on Cool FM’s social channels.

Expected to take around eight hours to complete, Pete Snodden will lead the way on the first stretch of the journey. Preparing for his 8am start, Pete jokingly said: “After 23 years in the business I thought I’d done it all… I was wrong! At one time the idea seemed impossible yet here we are!

“I hope that the challenge inspires the public to dig deep and give generously to Cash for Kids, so the charity can continue to support underprivileged families in Northern Ireland.”

Paulo Ross will take over from Pete on the second leg of the trek.“I can’t believe our crazy lockdown idea has come to life,” said Paulo. “This is a massive bucket list moment for me, and if we succeed, we’ll be the first radio station to have ever completed a challenge of this calibre. A massive amount of teamwork is required to help us cross the finish line and we thank everyone who has made this happen.”

With 25% of disadvantaged children and families living in poverty in NI, the three close friends are determined to do all they can to help make a difference to young peoples’ lives.

A nervous Rebecca McKinney added: “Out of all three of us I’ve the least experience with any form of water sports, so this will be one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever faced. While I know it will be tough, Cash for Kids is such an inspiring charity that I’m determined to face my fears for this great cause.”

In addition to the nerves and excitement, the trio is likely to face unpredictable weather, possible seasickness, inevitable aches and pains and the very cold Irish Sea. The entire undertaking will require an enormous amount of fortitude and steadfastness to see the team reach the welcoming Co Down coastline.

Hailing their return will be fellow Cool FM and Drive Time presenter John Kearns who will have the blankets, hot drinks and biscuits at the ready.
