Coming ahead of the BBC Proms Launch on Wednesday 17 April, this early announcement seeks to give audiences across the UK more time to plan ahead for this stand-out, family-friendly event next summer, as the Proms gets set to deliver a range of festive treats through Christmas and the New Year.

Passionate about bringing new audiences to classical music and identifying and nurturing emerging talent, the BBC Proms continues to make youth music-making and youth audiences a major focus of every season. The Prom with CBeebies will be one of many outstanding projects in the 2019 season which aims to encourage a diverse range of audiences to engage with the spirit of the world-famous festival.

A continuation of a long-standing relationship with BBC Children’s, this project builds on CBeebies Proms in 2014 and 2016, and the groundbreaking work of BBC Ten Pieces which also had dedicated Proms for the past four years.

To maximise audiences there will once again be two Proms with CBeebies in 2019 (Sunday 21 and Monday 22 July), to give a greater number of families access to the BBC Proms.

Both performances will feature a number of CBeebies stars. Speaking about the announcement, CBeebies presenter, Chris Jarvis, says: “I’m thrilled to be part of the third CBeebies Prom, another chance to bring world class real music to young ears. We all know how important it is to introduce children to the arts at an early age, but not everyone has access to the concert hall. With this Prom, every single child can enjoy the power and magic of a real orchestra and I’ll look forward to joining a number of my CBeebies friends for this exciting project next summer!”

David Pickard, Director, BBC Proms, says: “I am delighted that we are teaming up with BBC Children’s once again to bring the wonderful world of CBeebies to the Royal Albert Hall stage in 2019. We are incredibly proud of the work we do at the Proms to give young people and their families access to world-class, live music experiences at low prices and I know that this year’s CBeebies presentation will build on the hugely successful formats of the CBeebies Proms, Ten Pieces Proms, and our many other varied learning and education schemes.”

Cheryl Taylor, Head of Content, BBC Children’s, says: “We’re so proud to continue our partnership with the BBC Proms to present a musical extravaganza which allows our youngest viewers to get close to the characters and personalities they revere in a unique and culturally inspiring way!”

Full details about the CBeebies Prom will be available at the launch of the BBC Proms on Wednesday 17 April 2019.
Across Christmas, the BBC will give Proms audiences further out of season moments to engage with the festival. The following BBC Proms 2019 repeats will all be broadcast on BBC Radio 3 for BBC Sounds:

From Christmas Day through to the 8 January, audiences can re-live the magic of the BBC Proms 2018 as the sound of summer brightens those dark winter days:

Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday is marked once again with a repeat of West Side Story from the John Wilson Orchestra on Christmas Day at 7.30pm
The Berlin Philharmonic’s blazing performance of Strauss and Beethoven under their highly-acclaimed new Chief Conductor Kirill Petrenko can be heard at 7.30pm on 28 December
The New Year will be brought in with Marin Alsop and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (New Year’s Eve, 7.30pm)
Bernstein’s On The Town (New Year’s Day, 7pm)
An intimate Late Night Prom from the Tallis Scholars brings New Year’s Day festivities to a close as they weave together an intricate programme inspired by the Christian office of Compile, the final service of the day (9.30pm).
Other highlights include: Pioneers of Sound (2 January, 9.30pm); Jacob Collier and Friends (3 Jan, 9pm); Gilbert and Sullivan’s Trial By Jury performed in the newly restored Victorian Theatre at Alexandra Palace (3 Jan, 7pm); Havana Meets Kingston (4 Jan, 9pm); and, concluding a two-year project, Sir Andras Schiff returns with a Late Night performance of Book 2 of J.S. Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier (7 Jan, 7.30pm).

No Christmas would be complete without the world-famous Last Night Of The Proms, highlights of which will be repeated on New Year’s Eve at 9pm.

BBC Proms Inspire competition 2019 will be launching on Thursday 10 January on BBC Radio 3’s drive-time programme, In Tune. The competition sits at the heart of the BBC Proms Inspire scheme which gives the nation’s brightest young composers aged 12-18 years old the opportunity to expand their musical horizons and get a taste of what it means to be a composer in the 21st century.

The 2019 BBC Proms will take place from Friday 19 July - Saturday 14 September. Full details of BBC Proms 2019 will be announced on Wednesday 17 April and booking will open on Saturday 11 May.
