A brand new episode of Hey Duggee, which premieres on CBeebies on 26 June and available on BBC iPlayer, pays homage to the indie-electro band Hot Chip in the style of popular movie franchise Pitch Perfect, an allusion which should fill Duggee fans with Glee!

Duggee and the Squirrels are having a very peaceful day outside. Then a group of nattily dressed birds appear on a branch and start to sing an amazing harmony. The Squirrels love it, but don’t know where it’s coming from until Duggee spots it’s Hot Cheep!

Duggee and all of the other local animals instantly flock to the tree, as they’re huge fans. The performance inspires the Squirrels to start their own A Cappella group. Under Duggee’s guidance, the Squirrels start to imitate musical instruments with their mouths.

Together the Squirrels and Duggee form The Singing Squirrels, and come up with a notorious rhyme called Boots & Cats that anyone who has asked Siri on their iPhone to beatbox will recognise. The local animals love it so much they ask for another performance. They’re not the only ones who love it, ‘Hot Cheep’ join in with the Squirrels and vibe their beats together!

Hey Duggee is full of fun and inspires children to be energetic, collaborative and curious. Episodes are often peppered with popular culture references that parents will enjoy too. Recent new episodes The Mixtape Badge included nods to The Cure, Ornette Coleman, David Bowie, Bjork, Kendrick Lamar and Orbital, while the The Game Show Badge referenced Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, Mastermind, The Generation Game, and Through The Keyhole.

Apocalypse Now, Super Mario Bros. and The Simpsons have also been subtly parodied in past episodes of Hey Duggee.

Hey Duggee is narrated by comedian Alexander Armstrong and follows the adventures of pre-schoolers Happy, Tag, Norrie, Betty and Roly as they try new things and earn badges at The Squirrel Club under the guidance of Duggee.

Hey Duggee, a Studio AKA production with BBC Studios, is a six time BAFTA and international Emmy award-winning hit on CBeebies, which has ranked #1 on the channel from March-May this year. The show has an impressive global footprint in over 150 territories and over 2 billion minutes of total YouTube watch time.

Brand new episodes of Hey Duggee Series 3 air weekdays on CBeebies at 7:15am and are also available on BBC iPlayer.
