Capitol Music Group Bolsters Marketing & Artist Development Teams With 6 Execs Appointed As VPs

Capitol Music Group (CMG), has recently named or promoted six executives within its marketing departments to Vice President positions at the company—Jessica Eason, Zoe Gillespie, Kate Haffenden, Chris Kershaw, Byron Miller and Alex Williams—it was announced today by Capitol Music Group (CMG) President Arjun Pulijal. As Capitol continues to broaden its roster across multiple music genres and build upon its chart resurgence, these six executives have each distinguished themselves as marketing and artist development innovators, and are charged with responsibilities that are integral to the launch and success of projects by new and established artists across CMG’s portfolio of labels.

As Vice President of Marketing for Capitol Records, Jessica Eason is leading marketing efforts for some of the label’s most exciting breakout stars, including Doechii (in partnership with Top Dawg Entertainment), Queen Naija, Toosii, Kay Flock and BlueBucksClan. She is also overseeing marketing behind the first new album from R&B icon Babyface in eight years, Girls Night Out. Eason joined CMG 2018 as Director of Marketing, working with artists spanning the Capitol Records and Motown Records rosters, including Queen Naija, Vince Staples, Tiana Major9 and NE-YO. In 2020 she was promoted to Senior Director of Marketing and segued solely to Capitol Records in 2021. Prior to joining CMG, Eason was Director of Marketing at Saban Brands where she handled marketing for its global portfolio of entertainment brands, including Power Rangers, Cirque du Soleil and lifestyle and fashion brand Paul Frank. Eason is based in Hollywood and reports to Capitol Records Senior Vice President of Marketing Ray Alba.

As Vice President of Brand Partnerships and Strategy at CMG, Zoe Gillespie leads the team responsible for curating impactful partnerships, securing national and global brand campaigns for artists, as well as support artist initiatives across the company’s portfolio of labels. Recent achievements include the Katy Perry and LEGO global holiday campaign, FLETCHER's Meet Her At The Bar Pride Month experience presented by Lyft and recent JD Sports Nike campaign, as well as an Uber collaboration for Babyface’s new album Girls Night Out. Gillespie began her career at Capitol Records in 2012 as a publicity intern, joining the company full-time as Coordinator in 2014 in Digital Marketing and Publicity. She was promoted to Director of Brand Partnerships in 2018. During her CMG tenure, Gillespie has worked on partnerships with Halsey and Blizzard Entertainment, Troye Sivan and MAC Cosmetics, Paul McCartney and Postmates, Norah Jones and Parachute Home, among many others. Gillespie is based in Hollywood and reports to CMG President Arjun Pulijal.

As Vice President of International Marketing for CMG, Kate Haffenden works on global campaigns for a diverse array of artists that includes Halsey, Maggie Rogers, Troye Sivan, Kay Flock, Diddy and Calum Scott. For Scott, Haffenden recently spearheaded a myriad of local collaborations across Asia during the artist’s Bridges album campaign, driving over 25M TikTok views and 50M+ streams. She joined CMG in October 2021 having spent five years at Warner Records as Senior Director of International Marketing. While there, Haffenden worked on campaigns for Mac Miller, Jason Derulo, Bebe Rexha, Neil Young, Omar Apollo, NLE Choppa, and Lil Pump. She began her career in the UK at Mercury DefJam in the Publicity department, segueing to Atlantic Records there in 2007 as a Tour Publicist before moving to the U.S. with Warner Music Group in 2010. While at WMG, she worked on catalog projects for artists such as Madonna, Green Day, Led Zeppelin, Bad Boy Ent. and The Ramones. Haffenden reports to CMG Senior Vice President of Global Marketing, Kieran Thurgood.

As Vice President of Marketing for Capitol Records, Chris Kershaw is integrally involved in the planning and executing of marketing campaigns for an array of label artists that includes Sam Smith, FLETCHER, Katy Perry, Emeline and Natalie Jane. For Smith, Kershaw oversaw the campaign behind the artist’s recent #1 smash, “Unholy” (with Kim Petras), that broke records at the streaming services and became the artist’s highest-charting single to date. He also spearheaded FLETCHER’s recent Billboard Top 15 debut album ‘Girl Of My Dreams’. Kershaw joined Capitol in 2018 as Marketing Director, having moved from the UK where he was Senior Marketing Manager with Universal Music Group (UMG) for six years. While there, he oversaw marketing for a wide range of artists such as AURORA, Gregory Porter, Kacey Musgraves and Chris Stapelton. Kershaw is based in Hollywood and reports to Capitol Records Senior Vice President of Marketing, Nathan Sheppard.

As Vice President of Commercial Marketing, Streaming Strategy (Urban) for CMG, Byron Miller executes streaming and editorial strategies for artists spanning the company’s portfolio of labels. He was integral to the launch of Babyface’s first album in eight years, Girls Night Out, and greatly expanded the editorial reach for Doechii, who was named one of Spotify’s US Radar Artists of 2022. Miller joined CMG in 2017 as Manager, Artist Marketing, and has led the editorial and streaming strategies for artists and projects that include XXXTentacion’s ? album which has garnered more than 40 billion global streams, and Lil Baby’s My Turn, which was the highest-selling and streamed album of 2020 in the U.S. He was named CMG’s “Maverick of the Year,” at 2019’s Capitol Congress. Miller is based in Hollywood and reports to CMG Executive Vice President of Global Commercial Marketing & Strategy, Mike Sherwood.

As Vice President of Gaming Strategy & Business Development for CMG, Alex Williams is working on a number of endeavors to launch and expand the company’s presence in Gaming and ESPORTS, including the development of a comprehensive label strategy to drive growth for CMG within Gaming culture. Early plans include creating original content across platforms like Twitch and Discord, as well as artist partnerships with publishers including Riot, Blizzard and EPiC Games. He will continue to develop roadmaps to support exposure for new and developing artists across a multitude of Gaming platforms. Prior to joining CMG earlier this year, Williams was head of North American Gaming and ESPORTS for Coca-Cola, where he led the strategy to drive customer growth through the lens of gaming. Some of his key projects there included launching a global partnership with Activision Blizzard, Coke Energy global launch in partnership with 100Thieves, and overseeing Coca-Cola’s culture strategy and activations for ESPORTS. Williams is based in Atlanta and reports to CMG Senior Vice President of Digital Strategy & Business Development Nic Osborne.
