Carly Rae Jepsen has been given the role of Cinderella in a top Broadway musical.

The Canadian confirmed that she will be playing the classic part in Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella from February 4.

The run is expected to last twelve weeks in total and 28-year-old Jepsen said on Twitter that she is "honoured" to take over the role from Laura Osnes.

The 'Call Me Maybe' star said: "Dear @LauraOsnes I think you are truly lovely. Big shoes to fill! It's an honor to try on the Cindy shoes! Xoxox."

Jepsen meanwhile took part in a number of high school musicals before attending the Canadian College of Performing Arts.
