Channel 4 announces first cut film, I Do at 92

I Do at 92 follows three spirited OAP couples who are set to tie the knot and show to all that no matter how old you are, it's never late for love. It follows their excitement as well their fears as they tackle the challenges of getting down the aisle and face the reality of what the future might hold for them.

Exceptional though they are, these brides and grooms are just 6 of a rising number of OAP’s getting married. In 2015 the number of grooms in their late sixties increased by 25%, with brides of the same age going up by 21% (Source: The National Office of Statistics).

Georgina 94, lives in an exclusive care home in Surrey. She was married to her beloved Cliff for 57 years and devastated when he died. She thought she would never find love again, however with a glint her eye, she declares “you never know what life will send you.” Whilst in the home, she meets retired chef Raymond, 86, and invites him to join him at her table for dinner. Soon after, they fall in love and within six months Raymond proposes; but wedding bliss could be short-lived as Raymond has terminal cancer, defiant in the face of this knowledge, the couple hope to have at least a couple of years together.

In Mansfield, Margaret 81, head of the family and Great Grandmother to 11 children, has turned to the Internet to find love. She met Victor, 77, and fell for him instantly, ignoring her granddaughter’s warning not to take him home on the first date. Margaret went through a difficult time in her first marriage, which ended in divorce. Despite Margaret spending most of her life struggling to make ends meet, both have committed to spending their life savings in order to make their wedding the best day of their lives. For Victor, struggling with the deeply regretted mistakes of his past, this marriage will be a second chance to be a family man.

Romantic dreamer Derek, 76, has had two failed marriages and a troubled love life. Despite this he refuses to give up and is determined to find the right partner. Whilst calling at a Bingo club he meets former beauty queen, Carolyn, who he describes as having an “incredible glow”. It has taken him 18 years to muster the courage to ask her out when she agrees he is so emboldened by his success he proposes on their second date. His delight at her acceptance is tarnished by a dark secret he knows he must confide in her before they say their vows.

I Do At 92 is a 1 x 60 documentary, made by Transparent Television, part of Argonon. The producer/director is Chloe Fairweather and Executive Producer/s are Helen Littleboy, Jazz Gowans & Mark Powell.
