June/July highlights on All 4

Let’s be honest, this whole heatwave business is getting old now. It’s just a bit too much for us pasty-faced sweatbuckets. I visited my mum last night, and it’s so hot, she’s even turned her heating off (FYI this last happened when we had a black-and-white TV). Ms Swollox has taken up almost permanent residence, and the heavily pregnant woman I sit next to looks like she might have a heat-induced nervous breakdown at any moment.

But there is another way. Close the curtains. Switch on the fan. Get yourself a family tub of Cookie dough Ice cream and a bucket of frappucino, and tune in to All 4. As well as the vast array of brilliant material and vintage box sets to catch up with, there is currently the following rather marvellous new material available.

Trust All 4 to keep things cool.

The Last Leg: Correspondents
In a post-truth world where journalists, pollsters, and a whole litany of experts have lost their ability to get inside people's heads and work out what the hell they are thinking, Adam Hills, Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker are going to send our their own Last Leg Correspondents around the UK to find out what the hell is happening outside of the studio in the big bad world. Launching on Tuesday 20th June, 'The Last Leg: Correspondents' is a brand new comedy strand exclusive to All 4. In each episode, Adam, Josh or Alex introduces a new correspondent who has hit the streets of the UK investigating topical stories on their behalf. Each correspondent will approach their report from their own unique perspective and allows them to deal with the stories in amusing, inventive and borderline ludicrous ways. Upcoming correspondents will include Tez Ilyas, Richard Gadd and Ivo Graham.

Pride Collection
To mark the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales, Channel 4 is showing the 50 Shades of Gay season. To coincide with this, All 4 is screening its own Pride Collection this June. Programmes include:

Raised by Queers
Actor and soon-to-be-parent Kieron Richardson explores what it’s really like to be a same-sex parent in a brand new documentary exclusively for All 4. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales and to celebrate the progress made, Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson will be exploring same sex parenting in the gay community and speaking to those who have been on this journey. Kieron will meet both parents and children with first-hand experience of same sex parenting within the LGBTQIA community, discovering more about the world of surrogacy and modern parenting, the challenges faced, and finding out how rewarding the experience can be.

Hollyoaks Pride
A one-off 30 minute documentary celebrating Hollyoaks’ proudest LGBT characters and storylines. Stars Emmett Scanlan, Kieron Richardson, James Sutton, Annie Wallace, Jazmine Franks, Tamara Wall and Ross Adams join Exec Producer Bryan Kirkwood to look back at key moments in Hollyoaks history, including John Paul confessing his love for Craig, Brendan and Ste in Dublin, Esther and Grace’s marriage and Sally St. Claire revealing herself to be John Paul’s biological father.  Alongside the documentary, the Hollyoaks: Pride Box Set will offer fans the chance to watch eight classic episodes.

Sugar Rush
Based on the novel by Julie Burchill, Sugar Rush first aired on Channel 4 in 2005. The 10x30’ drama explores the world of Kim (Olivia Hallinan) and her earth-shattering lust for the gorgeous and sassy Maria Sweet (Lenora Crichlow), otherwise known as Sugar. And if Sugar wasn't enough to blow Kim's mind, there's also her dysfunctional, embarrassing family - a mini-freak for a brother, an obsessively house-proud dad and a mum who's behaving as if she's the one who's 15 years old. Each episode is a different journey inside Kim's world as her wry observations take us into the mind of a screwed up, loved up, lustful adolescent experiencing the bright lights of Brighton and the heady high of experiencing forbidden love for the first time.
