W Series, the international single-seater motor racing championship for women drivers, is set to return to Channel 4.

Channel 4 will carry highlight coverage of all ten W Series races this year with the first race taking place in Miami on May 7th. The coverage will include build-up, paddock insights and analysis, with every race also being available on demand on All4.

Channel 4 will also broadcast the W Series race at Silverstone live on July 2nd as part of their coverage of the British Grand Prix Formula 1 weekend – allowing race fans the chance to watch the world’s best men and women drivers in action on the same platform.

Launched in 2018, W Series eliminates the financial barriers that have historically prevented women from progressing to the upper tiers of motorsport and has produced the greatest number of professional women racing drivers of all time.

Returning for a third season this year, the series will feature eighteen women drivers from across the globe who will be competing for the W Series championship title. Among this year’s racers will be last year’s champion Jamie Chadwick, as well as five drivers making their W Series debut.

Catherine Bond Muir, Chief Executive Officer, W Series, said: “Channel 4 has supported W Series since the very beginning, so I am delighted that they will continue to showcase women’s motorsport by broadcasting the entirety of the 2022 W Series season free-to-air. This year is a landmark one for W Series as we stage more races in a single season than ever before, including a first race in Asia at the Japanese Grand Prix in October. As well as showing highlights of every W Series race in 2022, Channel 4 will broadcast live our home race at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in July, which promises to be a spectacular event during a great British summer of sport.”

Channel 4’s Head of News & Current Affairs & Specialist Factual & Sport, Louisa Compton said: “The return of W Series is great news for motorsport fans and we’re very excited to bring viewers coverage of the 2022 season. The all-women motor championship perfectly aligns with Channel 4: innovative, boundary-breaking, and is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats.”

W Series adds to Channel 4’s growing portfolio of sporting coverage this year which includes the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympics, the Betfred Super League Rugby, the Formula E Championships and the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
