'Want U Back' songstress Cher Lloyd has confessed that her success in America came as a real shock because she never expected her career to take off there. 

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, the British beauty explained that her expectations of finding fame stateside were so low that she only went across the pond with one suitcase with the initial aim of recording music there for a couple of weeks:

"I don't quite know how it all kicked off in America. That was never my plan. My thing was always to make it over here [in the UK] because I love my country. Being successful here is what counts for me."

Lloyd added: "I went to America with one suitcase, planning to stay for two weeks, and then two years later I was still there!"

She also recently spoke out about the pressure of being in the public eye, explaining that putting on a tough front will only get you so far because people can't wait to tear into you: "I think I have come to the realisation now that, you've either got to let the barrier down, or things are going to defeat you."
