Cher Lloyd thanks One Direction "setting up" her career

Cher Lloyd has opened up on the effect One Direction's global success has had on her career.

Both acts were on the UK X Factor in 2010, with the boyband finishing third and Lloyd fourth.

They also released their respective debut albums in November 2011, with One Direction finding immediate global success.

Lloyd has since followed suit and is enjoying great fame in the US ahead of the release of her second record.

Speaking to Yahoo's omg!, the 'Swagger Jagger' star believes the fact that One Direction came from a TV talent show has allowed other former contestants to make it big. She said:

"We're [both] always all over the place trying to work hard and trying to get somewhere, so I've seen a lot of [One Direction] on the Internet and on TV, and it's great they're doing so well.

"It kind of sets it up for me, too. You know, if someone else can do it from a TV show, then I can do it, too. It's hard for anyone to break into this music industry, and I think having a collective bunch of people makes it slightly easier - and the guys, too. Girls loves guys [laughs]…I'm very much a One Direction fan. I think they're the best boy [band] out there right now."
