London-based queer pop artist Sean Wyer is already turning heads with his addictive music. Having recently received attention from Jaguar on BBC Introducing, Jack Saunders at BBC Radio 1 and grassroots blogs across the web, Sean is returning with a ground-breaking new single, ‘Videogames’. This pop earworm is packed with affectionate lyrics and bright harmonies which glide effortlessly atop layers of slick production. With his charity shop couture and knowing charm, this confident LGBTQ+ songwriter is destined to go far.
Sharing his thoughts on the adventurous new single, Sean says, “Videogames is really about missing people you love. Lockdown was incredibly tough in that way. I’d fallen for a guy, but I was scared to tell him.
A bitter-sweet anthem of optimism and heartache, ‘Videogames’ was written in one sitting. “I was sat at the piano, and it just hit me that this is what I wanted to write. It was a really emotional experience. The lyrics came out of nowhere and suddenly took away all the confusion. It was like a lightning bolt of inspiration.”
“Later, I realised that it was the perfect song to collaborate on with Joel. He loves to experiment with lots of unique sounds in his production and he really brought the computer game aspects to life. It was a very cool collaboration. We struck this unique balance between my pretty melancholic song and Joel’s upbeat and detailed pop production.”
Live your life to the fullest, be creative in your own right, and stand up for what you believe in. These are the cornerstones for Sean in everything he does, from messing around in the studio to passionately advocating LGBTQ+ rights. Oozing charisma, and with a mischievous wit to boot, this powerhouse is one to watch.
Sean Wyer’s ‘Videogames’ is out June 4th, and it feels like an instant classic.
