Christina Aguilera took centre stage at last night's Super Bowl (February 6) to sing the American National Anthem, but her performance took an unusual turn when she altered the lyrics. 

The mishap, which is still one of the worldwide trending topics on Twitter, came during the fourth line of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' where Aguilera sang "what so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming?" instead of "O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?".

Following the performance, she gave a statement to the Associated Press about the fumbled lyrics, which said:

"I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through."
