Christina Aguilera opens up on parenthood

Christina Aguilera has opened up about her young son in an emotional interview.

The 31-year-old songstress has son Max, who turns 5 in January, with former husband Jordan Bratman, and recently spoke to Dateline NBC about their relationship.

She told host Hoda Kotb: "He is my heart he is my world, he's just my baby."

International superstar Aguilera also touched upon the steps she has taken to give her son a happy childhood.

The singer - who has previously spoken about her troubled home life - says Max's safety is paramount to her.

She explained: "I am definitely accomplishing that goal thus far. No matter what, I know he is in an environment that makes him very safe."

Aguilera has faced harsh public opinion in the past, but is glad she is able to channel all of her emotion through her songs.

She continued: "I have definitely experienced forms of bullying, and that's why it's so important for me to write songs like 'Beautiful' and 'Fighter'. On this current record, 'Lotus' is all about being an unbreakable flower that survives the test of time.

"Throughout the roughest of surroundings and harshest weather conditions it remains strong and thrives."

Aguilera is currently promoting her seventh studio album, 'Lotus.'
