Cooking Vinyl Form Strategic Partnership With Fat Cat

London based independent music company Cooking Vinyl has announced a strategic partnership with legendary label Fat Cat Records.

Under this new agreement Cooking Vinyl, who will take equity in Fat Cat Records, will work with the company’s founders Alex knight and Dave Cawley and their existing staff to develop the business and increase the label’s international reach.

Fat Cat, which will continue to be based in Brighton, was launched in 1989 as a record shop and became a label in 1997. Now in its 19th year, the label has a firm ethos of championing new and undiscovered artists. With offshoot imprints 130701 Records, Split Series, Splinter Series and Palmist Records, the label has cultivated a musically diverse and rich catalogue of releases from such artists as Sigur Ros, Animal Collective, Frightened Rabbit, Vashti Bunyan, Mum, Max Richter, The Twilight Sad, Hauschka, Dustin O Halleran and Nina Nastasia among others.

The label’s current roster includes Honeyblood, C Duncan, Ian William Craig, Resina, Oliver Alary, Big Deal, PAWS, Shopping, Tal National, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch and Dmitry Evgrafov.

Dave Cawley, co-founder of Fat Cat Records said, “There are many advantages. The main one is getting the help, experience and guidance from Martin Goldschmidt and his team. It feels that we are now in a partnership where although we both have our own successful businesses, they really care about helping shape Fat Cat into a successful business while keeping our identity and creative ethos intact.”

Martin Goldschmidt, founder of Cooking Vinyl said, “Fat Cat remain one of the best UK indies for discovering and breaking new artists from Sigur Ross to C Duncan and many in between. We have known and worked with the Fat Cat team for some time so they are already very much part of the family. This new agreement allows us to work even closer together to help them reach their full potential both creatively and commercially and to introduce their artists to a wider international audience.”
