No Gold Giveaway New Track 'Hollarp'

"One of Canada's hottest prospects" - Fake DIY

"Smashing technology, visual arts and electronic music together, the trio's sound is as evocative as it is contagious" - Clash

"Stretched out guitar-bass-drums dance rock sound with samplers, synths, melodic textures and laid-back rhythms reminiscent of Can and disco impresario Arthur Russell." - Now Toronto

Vancouver trio No Gold are giving away new track 'Hollarp', the follow-up to the recent Fader premiered 'Good And Bad'. Whilst 'Good And Bad' propagated the kind of evocative electro pop reminiscent of the afore-mentioned Arthur Russell, Panda Bear and Caribou, 'Hollarp' is a lighter affair brimming with hypnotising, blissful synths and stuttering beats.

Download the warm, softly buzzing 'Hollarp' here, as originally premiered by Fake DIY last week.

No Gold came up through Vancouver's underground dance party scene: a sweaty, dynamic, spontaneous and irreverent community. Back then, they were based out of the infamous and now defunct weird punk venue The Emergency Room. No Gold were known for instigating waves of communal ecstasy during performances of their fast, loose-limbed, deep groove pop. For the first two years, they were strictly a live band with no recorded output, instead focusing on creating transcendental performances. They performed at a series of now legendary renegade outdoor summer parties that saw them sharing their music in places like cliffside ocean vistas and the undersides of viaducts.

The trio eventually began exploring the ways in which drums, guitar and bass could interact with electronic textures and rhythms created by samplers, synths and drum machines. Their jangly shuffling rhythms, often likened to early Talking Heads or Lifetones, began to amalgamate with their love of the last thirty years of dance music culture, from Larry Heard to Arthur Russell, Bjork's 'Debut' to the dense Rhythm & Sound/Basic Channel catalogue.

After releasing their debut self-titled LP in 2011 No Gold pivoted to their current incarnation, more concerned with loose rhythms, swampy synth and voices than the typical 'rock' set-up.

The band will release the double EP 'Expansion Pak' in the summer with a 12” EP to follow in Autumn, all with accompanying European live dates. More details on the horizon.
