Demi Lovato: 'I represent the curvy sassiness of a Latina woman'

'Give Your Heart A Break' beauty Demi Lovato has opened up about her Latin heritage and confessed that she's proud to represent a true 'Latina woman' in how she presents herself.

Speaking to The Huffington Post at the Cosmopolitan For Latinas' Fun, Fearless Awards on Wednesday night (June 4), the songstress admitted it's important to her to embrace her roots because she's proud of where she comes from:

"I'm really proud of [my heritage], especially the way that the Latin community is kind of taking over and rising above politically. Even though I don't speak fluent Spanish, I love singing in Spanish. I love being able to represent the curvy sassiness of a Latina woman. It's just a part of who I am, and I couldn't be more proud to represent that."

Lovato went onto add that diversity will only continue to grow in the entertainment industry and joked that Latinos are taking over: "With that, I feel we could use more of it, definitely. We're taking over, so it’s just a matter of time, especially in California. It's exciting to see a younger demographic, [stars like] Bella Thorne, Selena [Gomez] and I -- it's exciting to see the younger generation embracing their culture."
