Demi Lovato reveals grandfather inspiration: 'He was brave enough to come out in the 1960s'

Demi Lovato says she takes a lot of inspiration from her gay grandfather.

The singer revealed at Logo TV's Trailblazers Awards on Tuesday (June 24) that her grandfather came out during the 60s.

This has given the 'Neon Lights' star great amounts of inspiration as she channels his braveness.

Speaking as she presented an award to the cast of Orange Is The New Black, Lovato said:

"I've never spoken about this before, but my grandfather was a trailblazer himself. He was brave enough to come out in the 1960s, and I feel that a lot of my spirit has come from him. He passed away a few years later and I only wish he could have been able to see all the progress that has been made."

The singer meanwhile was honoured at the Los Angeles' gay pride event earlier this month.
