Demi Lovato was "nervous" about opening up for MTV's 'Stay Strong' documentary

Demi Lovato has admitted that while she's excited for her new MTV special to air, she was very "nervous about opening up to the cameras" for the personal documentary, which looks at the issues she has faced.

The programmed, entitled 'Stay Strong', sees Lovato talk candidly about the pressures of fame, her eating disorder and the time she spent in a recovery centre, and although she thinks it's important to both inspire and be honest to her fans, she was apprehensive about baring all:

"I was most definitely nervous about opening up to the cameras. And I was very hesitant to say certain things, but once I was around them for a while, I felt more comfortable and really opened up towards them."

"My goals for my fans? It's to really inspire people. That's all I hope to accomplish. If there is a young girl at home dealing with the same issues that I'm dealing with, I want to be able to reach out to her and tell her that it's going to be OK."

"You know, I speak about a lot of serious issues and I really hope to get awareness out there about the issues that I dealt with. But at the end of the day, I just want people to see what it's like to be in my shoes. I kind of talked about the journey that I've been on and I just want people to take away a positive message. It gets better, you know?"

'Stay Strong' is set to air in the U.S. tomorrow, March 6, and you can watch a preview for the show below:
