Demi Lovato quits using cell phone to improve her life

X Factor USA panelist Demi Lovato has revealed that she ditched her cell phone in order to live a healthier and happier lifestyle.

The 'Skyscraper' beauty spoke to Self magazine, which she covers for the August issue, about the bold decision and explained that she simply felt socially disconnected when she relied on her phone so thought it was time to kick the "crutch" and be more personable:

"I make time for myself and meditate. I've spent the past two years getting over an eating disorder and issues like self-harming and bipolar disorder. I have to work on this stuff every day. I'm reminded of that whenever I eat or feel down."

"I haven't used my cell (phone) in three months! Subconsciously, it was a crutch. When a room gets quiet, what do you do? Grab your phone! Now I can sit and have conversations with people."

Lovato added that she dealt with serious anxiety in the past and often felt the need to release the sensation by doing something physical, such as cutting herself:

"There were times I felt so anxious, almost like I was crawling out of my skin - that if I didn't do something physical to match the way I felt inside, I would explode. I cut myself to take my mind off that. I just didn't care what happened. I had no fear."
