Demi Lovato 'honoured' to play a lesbian on 'Glee'

'Give Your Heart A Break' songstress Demi Lovato has revealed that she's excited about portraying a lesbian during her guest role on hit U.S. musical show 'Glee' as it shows that attitudes are becoming more progressive.

She told Ryan Seacrest that appearing on the programme is an honour and she's especially looking forward to playing a gay character as she believes in equality and thinks it's important to show it on television:

"I don’t want people to take from this, ‘Oh my god, Demi is kissing a girl.’ I want people to take from it this is actually an incredible step in our generation today where I’m able to play a young lesbian on primetime TV…"

"I’m honored to be able to be hopefully inspiring people with my character to be who they are and not be afraid of it or ashamed."

Lovato's character will be a love interest for Naya Rivera, who plays the role of Santana Lopez, and Rivera recently shared a photograph of them posing together on the set via Instagram (shown below). Meanwhile Lovato has revealed that she will be making a big announcement on Monday (September 9): "BIIIIIIIIIG news coming on Monday that I can't wait to share with you!!! 😄😄😄 #CountdownToStayingStrong."
