Demi Lovato: 'I always just assumed my father was a bad guy'

Songstress Demi Lovato has admitted that her own battles with mental health and addiction have shown her that her late father, Patrick, wasn't the 'bad guy' she always thought he was

The hitmaker recently launched the Lovato Treatment Scholarship, which will help cover medical expenses along with fund therapy programs, and explained to Nylon magazine that she hopes it will benefit someone dealing with similar problems.

Her father suffered from years of mental health and addiction issues, and sadly passed away earlier this summer so Lovato has been coming to terms with his death and wants to use this new program to maybe help someone else's dad:

"I went through an entire life without my birth dad because I assumed that he was a bad guy and never took into consideration, even after I went through my stuff, that he was just ill."

The 'Heart Attack' beauty added: "I thought, 'Maybe this can save somebody's dad!'"
