A falsetto-laced and irresistibly upbeat track featuring emerging indie artist Christian Blue, “Super Bad Mantra” is the second song released from JAWNY’s upcoming project For Abby, due out via Interscope Records on 27th October. LISTEN TO “SUPER BAD MANTRA” BY JAWNY FT. CHRISTIAN BLUE HERE Co-written by JAWNY and Christian Blue, “Super Bad Mantra” finds the two artists threading their lyrics with brilliantly twisted one-liners (e.g., “She gon’ put me in a headlock and I like it”). In sculpting the song’s groove-heavy soundscape, JAWNY co-produced alongside Jason Evigan, once again tapping into the throwback yet forward-thinking sensibilities first revealed on his 2019 breakthrough single “Honeypie.” “I’ve been working on this song for two years now,” says JAWNY. “I’ve gotten two different features on it that I took off and I’ve rewritten my verse 3x to make it perfect. Me and my brother have been making music together my whole life and this is the first time I’ve gotten him on a song. Now it's that time for the world to hear it. If yall let this flop… I’m replacing my entire project with 10 tracks of dining room chatter at an Outback Steakhouse.” With its infectious hook and carefree gang vocals, “Super Bad Mantra” marks a departure from the angsty intensity of “Sabotage,” the high-powered lead single from For Abby. Released last month, “Sabotage” earned praise from outlets like Ones To Watch, who hailed the song as a “self-aware freedom ride…Full of fun melodies, and aggressively-dance-worthy guitar riffs.” Both songs AboutBorn Jacob Sullenger, JAWNY grew up outside Oakland and started playing guitar when he was just six-years-old. At age 13 he began making beats with his brother, eventually landing placements with several rappers in the SoundCloud scene of the late-aughts. By 2017 he’d gained a cult-like following thanks in part to a series of viral videos posted on Twitter, and drew further buzz in 2018 with a self-titled debut EP made under the name Johnny Utah. In 2019, he broadened his fanbase with widely praised singles like “Honeypie” and “4Tounce,” then landed a deal with Interscope Records by the year’s end.
