Georgia is in a place where doing right by patients can come at a higher cost to patients, caregivers, and those seeking alternative treatments and therapeutics in the long run.

As it relates to being a fair process, authorizing legislation and appointments from top state officials selected six companies from a pool of sixty-nine applicants looking to provide high-quality low-THC oil up to 5% for a growing list of over 20,000 registered patients.

I believe that all who are immediately involved, including the appellants, the six awardees, the cannabis commission, and legislators, should continue to plan how to put patients at the forefront of their plans. It is uncertain how we will move ahead before the next session, but you all have our collective interest and faith as Georgia patients; we are watching.

As for our legislators, we thank those who have stood bold to move things; now, it is time to talk to your colleagues. It’s time to move Georgia forward.

With the circulation of pro-cannabis bills in Congress, decimalization, expansion of cannabis research, and cannabis de-scheduling can strike gold for the awardees of these first six licensees here in Georgia.

This is an election year; we need leaders who can make things happen and have our best interest at the forefront.

The National Cannabis Party is looking to weigh in and lend recommendations to policymakers and support candidates who offer themselves as viable candidates supporting cannabis reform and equitable distribution of education, resources, and opportunities for consumers and entrepreneurs in the cannabis industry.

Where does this leave minorities and those still being targeted and criminalized for trying to find relief from the racial trauma and political indifferences that compound issues around quality of life, physical elements, and medical conditions? All this during the pandemic that came amid an opioid epidemic?

The government should be expanding its relief efforts while creating more sustainable opportunities for Georgians and local economies. This is the time patients, supporters, and stakeholders should be speaking to our candidates.

2018 AJC poll showed that 77 percent wanted greater access to medical cannabis compared with 71 percent in 2017 and 73 percent in 2016.

Georgia is a leader in innovation. A look at the expansion and reform of its medical program could provide ways to mitigate potential losses while championing common-sense regulations through education, scientific advancement, and economic growth.
