Ed Sheeran: "I used to drink heavily"

Ed Sheeran has admitted that he used to have something of a drink problem.

The singer-songwriter told Fabulous magazine that he used to down drinks when he started off gigging in bars and clubs.

However, when he signed a record deal before the release of his 2011 debut album '+' he kicked the habit. The 'Sing' star said:

"I used to drink. Heavily. I came up in pubs and clubs, so you get paid in alcohol, and, as soon as I signed a record deal, I thought, 'I just need to focus on this year. I can't have anything f**k it up'."

However, Sheeran said that he resumed drinking again after the release of '+', revealing:

"The day I started drinking again was the day the album sold a million copies and I was like, 'Right, done. Back to normality'."

Sheeran meanwhile is due to release his new album 'x' on June 23.
