Ed Sheeran on writing for One Direction: 'I wrote it specifically for them, which was a first for me'

Superstar Ed Sheeran has opened up about the new song he recently wrote for boyband One Direction and confessed that he penned the track specifically for the lads, which is something he hadn't done before.

During a new interview with Capital FM, the 'Lego House' hitmaker explained that he had the boys in mind when he created the song so it's something intended directly for them as opposed to a song he just wrote that will be recorded by another random artist:

“I got a text today saying it’s definitely on the album. I wrote it in a hotel room in Cologne and I wrote it specifically for them. It’s the first time I’ve done that, so it’s a One Direction song rather than a ‘me’ song that they record. It’s kind of a little bit of everything, it is ballad-y but it is up-tempo at the same time."

Sheeran went onto add that as soon as music mogul Simon Cowell gave it his stamp of approval, the process moved quickly and the 'Story Of My Life' heartthrobs got into the studio and recorded it: "I wrote it by myself and I first played it to Simon Cowell and he really liked it and then they all heard it and vocalled it.”

The song will appear on One Direction's highly anticipated forthcoming new album, 'FOUR', which is due to be released on November 17.
