Ed Sheeran on fame: 'I'm glad it has been a hard ride because it feels more worthwhile now'

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has revealed that he's glad his rise to fame has taken a few years and has been difficult, because it makes it feel so much more worthwhile.

Speaking about how rewarding his career has been to date, the 'Lego House' hitmaker admitted that if you really pour your heart and soul into something and eventually get it, it's incredibly fulfilling and doesn't feel 'empty':

"I think anything worth having is going to be hard to get and I wasn't expecting it to be an easy ride. I kind of wanted it to be the hard ride because when you get it it's actually worth it."

He also addressed the passage in his new autobiography, 'Ed Sheeran: A Visual Journey', in which he talked about sleeping on the London Underground system when he was homeless:

''I don't think I'm the only one to do that [use the Tube to catch up on sleep]. I think that's a common thing if you go out late. I could've gone home, back to Suffolk, to live with my parents but I needed to be in London and I was gigging every day for free."
