Ed Sheeran responds to criticism from Isle of Wight festival boss: 'He asked me to play next year!'

Isle of Wight Festival boss John Giddings recently labelled singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran as 'boring' and not exciting enough for an outdoor music event of such importance, and the 'Lego House' superstar has now responded to his remarks.

Virtual Festivals initially reported that Giddings spoke at the Live UK Summit 2014 and criticised Sheeran for being dull. Giddings is quoted as saying:

"We're not building headliners anymore. Nobody can invest in building a band over five albums. And if boring acts like Ed Sheeran are the future then we're all screwed."

After the coverage was shared via Twitter by Gigwise, Sheeran saw it (October 20) and publicly replied. He admitted that the criticism means absolutely nothing because he was approached by Giddings 'a few weeks ago' and was asked to perform at next year's Isle of Wight Festival: "@Gigwise he asked me to do the festival next year a few weeks ago funnily enough and I couldn't do it due to another gig."
