Ed Sheeran on Being a Role Model: “Teaching kids to be themselves is so important”

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has opened up about being considered a role model and revealed that all he wants to do is to inspire young people and reassure young people that they should embrace who they are.

Speaking to reporters on the red carpet at the Billboard Music Awards, the 'Thinking Out Loud' sensation admitted that it's important to be mindful of how you're presenting yourself to the public as a superstar because people will be looking up to you and watching your every move:

"The key is just to be human and real and yourself. Your job as a role model isn't necessarily just to behave. I think being a good role model is teaching kids to be themselves."

The hitmaker, meanwhile, also recently spoke to Britain's The Mirror newspaper about his dreams for the future and confessed that he would love to start a family: "My parents are so in love it's ridiculous. I kind of look at it like pressure. They've cracked it and my grandparents cracked it - but nowadays it's harder to find that. I hope to have kids.

"Being able to really pay my parents - not just financially - but being able to give them the things they wouldn't have ever dreamed of... Seeing them going off doing their thing is probably the best thing that's come out of my career. They're going around the world and for me to see that is great."
