Ed Sheeran on recently quitting smoking: 'It was cold turkey'

Ed Sheeran has revealed that he recently made the decision to stop smoking.

Sheeran detailed his bad habit and his efforts to quit during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres:

“It was cold turkey. I realised that I'd been smoking for ten years and that's bad.”

Ed explained: “I started smoking when I was younger and I'd always say, like, 'I'm gonna quit. I'm gonna quit'. And then, 'Oh well, I haven't been smoking for that long. It's been, what, four years like that...' and then when it got to ten years, I was like, 'Oh... I'm probably getting to the point of no return here.”

Sheeran told Ellen that he gave up smoking over a week ago and is proud to have gone ten days without a cigarette.

The ‘Thinking Out Loud’ star stated that a key trigger behind his compulsion to smoke was his work schedule whilst on tour:

“The reason I kind of liked smoking so much was just it was a routine. Do a soundcheck, have a cigarette, do a gig, have a cigarette, have food, have a cigarette. And now I'm not going to be touring and working for a while.”

Sheeran also recently revealed that stories told to him by Sir Elton John put him off of drugs.
