Ed Sheeran sued over alleged "Thinking Out Loud" similarities to Marvin Gaye

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran is being sued over claims that his single "Thinking Out Loud" was taken from Marvin Gaye's iconic song, "Let's Get It On".

The family of "Let's Get It On" co-writer Ed Townsend has sought legal advice over the issue as it believes parts of Sheeran's track were directly copied.

The Telegraph newspaper reports that court papers read: "The Defendants copied the heart of "Let's" and repeated it continuously throughout "Thinking". The melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic compositions of "Thinking" are substantially and/or strikingly similar to the drum composition of "Let's"."

Sheeran and his record label are yet to respond to these claims. The star penned "Thinking Out Loud" with songwriter and friend Amy Wadge. Back in June, Sheeran was sued for $20 million by the songwriters who wrote Matt Cardle's 'X Factor' winner's song 'Amazing'.
