Ed Sheeran reveals hopes for US success

Ed Sheeran has revealed he would love to repeat the British success of his debut album in the US.

The 21-year-old, who won two BRIT Awards and reached number one with ‘+’ in the UK, told Forbes Magazine that he hopes his back-to-basics approach will help him stand out from other singer-songwriters in America.

“I’ve got bright red hair, so I guess I stand out anyway.

“I play the music that I’ve always played, and it stood out enough in England to sell a few records, so hopefully it’ll stand out here.”

Speaking after his well-received set at the SXSW Festival last week, the 'Lego House' star added: “This is my first proper step into the U.S. market. I was actually meant to be here last year, and then I ended up getting signed and making a record. So I missed out on it.”

And the Suffolk singer admitted that he’s prepared to start from the bottom again whilst attempting to break the notoriously difficult market:

“I live within my means. I’m doing well in England, so I’d stay in nice hotels. But I haven’t sold a single record in the US yet, so I’m just staying in a very small place just outside of town. I’m not doing anything glamorous.”
