Ed Sheeran tops the first ever streaming chart

Ed Sheeran has been named as the most streamed artist in the UK this year so far.

The Official Charts Company say they are launching the first ever 'streaming chart' from May 14 onwards as the rise in streaming services such as Spotify grows.

To mark the news, they have unveiled a chart of the most streamed artists so far in 2012, with Sheeran in pole position.

He beat off competition from Lana Del Rey and David Guetta, who landed at No.2 and No.3 respectively.

Rihanna and Coldplay meanwhile finish off the top five.

Perhaps most surprisingly, world beaters One Direction have only managed to chart at No.20 on the list.
