Ed Sheeran says music degrees are a waste of money

Ed Sheeran has questioned the point in music degrees.

The singer-songwriter told BBC Newsbeat that he believes the best way to break into the music industry is by gaining first-hand experience and learning from those already in the game.

The 'Lego House' man said that he attended a lecture at music college but was taught how to erect a microphone stand. Sheeran said:

"If you want to be a producer then shadow a producer, start making him tea. If you want to be a singer then make sure you go to a lot of shows of people you really, really admire, study how they do it. Do your own shows, work up your confidence, write as many songs as possible so each time you do a song it gets better and better and better."

The flame-haired music maestro added: "The main thing people get messed up is they think, 'Right I need a degree, I'm going to go off and study music at university'."
