BBC Radio 2 today announced that Elbow fans will get the chance to watch the exclusive In Concert Elbow homecoming gig at Manchester Cathedral at a special free BBC Big Screen event at Exchange Square organised in conjunction with Manchester City Council.

On Thursday 27 October (8.00-10.00pm), Bury band Elbow will perform tracks from their Mercury Prize nominated album Build A Rocket Boys! in the beautiful surrounding of Manchester Cathedral, which will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2, as part of the In Concert series.

The band will also be playing tracks from their previous album, the triple platinum selling The Seldom Seen Kid, together with other favourites from their back catalogue.

Guy Garvey, lead singer of Elbow, says: "We've seen Beach House and I Am Kloot play at the Cathedral. It's a magnificent space with great acoustics and being as proudly Mancunian as we are, it's an honour to be playing the building that makes our great city a city."

Now fans not lucky enough to get tickets for the gig will be able to see it broadcast live on the BBC Big Screen in Manchester's Exchange Square at 9.00pm.

Gates open at 7.30pm and music lovers wanting to attend the event can turn up on a first come/first served basis.

Cllr Mike Amesbury, exec member for culture and leisure, Manchester City Council, says: "We're really pleased that the BBC has chosen Elbow and Manchester for their latest homecoming gig and have been working closely with them to ensure the event in Exchange Square will be a night to remember."

The Elbow In Concert gig will be a truly multi-platform event as fans around the country will also be able to watch the group's homecoming performance live on BBC Red Button, online at the Radio 2 website and listen to the concert wherever they are by tuning into BBC Radio 2.

Listeners can then tune into BBC Radio 6 Music from 10.00pm to hear the encore. The concert will also be available to view on the Red Button until Thursday 3 November.

Jo Whiley will present the gig live and will chat to the group ahead of the show.

The Halle Youth Choir will also be joining Elbow on stage to perform 

songs from the band's award-winning back catalogue at this special homecoming event.

In support is local indie folk band, the Slow Show. The band has been chosen by BBC Introducing, which champions unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar musicians, giving the best new artists broadcast opportunities across the BBC.

Previous homecoming gigs for BBC Radio 2 In Concert have featured Paulo Nutini in his hometown of Paisley and the Manic Street Preachers from Blackwood in south Wales.
