Ellie Goulding on mental health struggles: "It's a very lonely feeling"

Musician Ellie Goulding has revealed that the panic attacks she experienced felt as severe as a heart attack and really made her concerned for her health.

She explained to Stylist magazine that her exhaustion was intense and she felt as though her body was "giving up": "I'd have panic attacks and, to me, they felt like I was dying of a heart attack. It's a very hot, burning feeling, like your heart is racing uncontrollably which is extra scary for me because I actually have a heart defect."

Goulding added that mental health problems can be alienating and she felt "lonely" while she was in the midst of her anxiety and exhaustion, which is something she wants to bring to light now as it could be a helpful dialogue to open up:

"When I think back to my tiredness, my slump, not wanting to exercise and not being interested in anything. It wasn't depression, it was just my body giving up. Too many people are quiet about mental health. When you feel anxiety, it's a very lonely feeling. It makes you feel like you're the only person in the world feeling that way."
