Ellie Goulding: "When I'm in the studio I have to wear all black"

Ellie Goulding has revealed that she can only wear black when she's in the studio because colored clothes distract her.

The British singer-songwriter explained that she only dresses in all-black because it's like a "blank canvas" and she also can't wear jewellery or bright-colored makeup.

Speaking on the 'Talk Art' podcast alongside her art dealer husband, Caspar Jopling, Goulding said: "I'm a bit of a weirdo, I have to wear black every day. When I'm in the studio I have to wear all black, kind of like a blank canvas so I don't get distracted by anything I'm wearing.

"I can't wear any kind of jewellery, any make-up, anything with color. It has to be a black T-shirt. I can't even wear tight trousers, it has to be like I'm about to embark on something physical."

Meanwhile, the 'Slow Grenade' singer recently admitted that she feared she'd lost her songwriting ability while making her new album.

She said that she thought she'd lost the talent to pen hit records after spending several weeks in Los Angeles making her new album, Brightest Blue, and hardly creating anything worthy to make the upcoming record's final cut.

Goulding had previously revealed that the first half of the record reflects her vulnerability and acknowledges a complex world where relationships still dictate our happiness and heartbreak and can still be the most painful thing in the world, no matter how enlightened you are.

"The tracks also symbolise growing up and becoming a woman," she added.

Speaking on Instagram Live recently, Goulding - whose last album, Delirium, was released in 2015 - also said: "I did a whole month of sessions in L.A. and for some reason they weren't going well. For some reason I was having a hard time.

"And then when you have a succession of sessions that don't go well, you suddenly think you've lost all of your powers and you can't write and you're rubbish. That's just classic me.

"I ended up getting two songs. One was 'Slow Grenade'. Some of the lyrics are poignant to what's going on in the world. I hope the songs will be helpful in some way. I dunno, therapy."

The 33-year-old music star dropped her latest single 'Slow Grenade' feat. Lauv last week. Check it out below.

Brightest Blue is set to be released this month on July 17, but you can pre-order it here.
