Ellie Goulding: 'I played new 'break-up' album for my ex-boyfriend and he loved it'

Songstress Ellie Goulding has admitted that in order to dispell or prevent any bad feelings between her and her ex-boyfriend she played him the songs from her new album to get his approval.

Goulding recently revealed that despite not intending to write about romance, a lot of the tracks that make up her new record 'Halcyon' are themed around love and it turned into something of a "break up album", so she played them to her former lover, Radio 1's Greg James, before it was released to the public:

"I suppose it is kind of a break-up album, although I didn’t mean it that way. It’s just an album based around the last couple of years, when I’ve had a lot to think about. Because he’s well known people are always going to be interested. He’s such a lovely person. Greg and I are mates, and I played him some of the new songs, and he loved them."

When asked if she has enjoyed her rise to fame, Goulding joked that she can't over-indulge because the risk of losing or damaging her voice is too big: "I can’t really afford to get wasted all the time, to be honest. I like to drink and I have smoked, and I like to have fun, but I’m so scared of losing my voice because it’s my everything. It’s the one thing that I use... I have to have this."
