Emeli Sandé talks songwriting, wants to pen tracks for Stevie Wonder and Annie Lennox

Emeli Sandé has opened up about how she writes songs and explained that she would love to pen a track for legendary stars of music Annie Lennox or Stevie Wonder.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post newspaper, the 'Heaven' sensation revealed that it takes a certain kind of environment in which to write successfully and she has to trust the people she's with for her ideas to materialise:

"There aren't any set rules, but I know the best kind of environment is at night for me. I can never write a good song if I'm around people that I don't trust or don't really click with."

"It has to be people that I really trust and I can share ideas with, that can really inspire me with conversation.''

When asked about potential collaborators or people she wants to work with, Sandé mused: "I would love to write for someone legendary like Stevie Wonder or Annie Lennox.''

Sandé, who recently won the coveted Critics' Choice BRIT Award, added that she suffers from the dreaded writer's block occasionally, but steps "outside of the music industry" to recharge her imagination:

"Sometimes when I have been writing too much I kind of find myself thinking I have nothing to write about anymore, but it usually goes within a month. I think the best thing is to stop writing at that point and live and do stuff outside of the music industry.''
