Derry Native ROE Drops Enchanting New Number "Playground Fights"

Derry native ROE drops enchanting new number ‘Playground Fights’.

After drifting onto our radars last year, the Irish multi-instrumentalist has been applauded by fans and critics alike for her melancholic musings and celestial soundscapes (or, as she prefers to call it, ‘grumpy electro-pop’).

‘Fake Ur Death’ - the opening track lifted from her stellar second EP You Call It Art - was featured on Tom Robinson’s weekly mixtape on BBC Radio 6, as well as being chosen as Across the Line’s ‘Track of the Day’. Echoing the successes of her second EP, ROE’s follow-up single ‘Cheek, Boy’ was promptly playlisted by Fresh on the Net, who described it as “A lovely little pop-nugget… ROE’s voice is one with more wisdom than her years suggest”. The track subsequently made it’s way onto TV as well, having been used as part of Harp’s ‘Pure Here’ campaign and on an episode of ITV’s ‘The Only Way is Essex’.

For the past few months, the budding 18-year-old has been soaking up the summer’s festival circuit, taking her effects-laden alt-pop to Output (Belfast), The Great Escape (Brighton) and, to crown it all off, ROE was the only Irish artist to play the BBC Introducing stage at Glastonbury.

With the release of ‘Playground Fights’, ROE hit the road for a month and a half long UK tour, which will see her perform at venues across the UK & Ireland. Talking about the new track, ROE said “it’s about an argument between someone’s younger and older selves, and about how when we get older, we lose the childish side of ourselves because of all the responsibilities that just hit you in the face”.

'Playground Fights' is out now on all digital platforms.
