Fifth Harmony's Camila Cabello has admitted that she has received a backlash for duetting with Shawn Mendes.

The singer teamed up with the Canadian on his recent single 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'.

However, some fans were disappointed in Cabello for ditching her bandmates to do a solo feature.

Speaking in the March issue of Seventeen magazine, the singer said that the duet wasn't a planned "career move".

Cabello said: "It’s been so difficult to watch people criticise me and my intentions. It’s been sh*tty.

"They turned me [doing the song] into a conspiracy theory. We literally just wrote a song backstage, and it ended up becoming something awesome.

"It wasn’t a career move that I carefully planned out."

The former X Factor star was busy promoting the song on TV shows while Fifth Harmony enjoyed some downtime around Christmas.
