Fifth Harmony update fans about their upcoming self-titled album

Fifth Harmony have revealed that their new album is their most "raw" yet.

The American girl group - consisting of Normani Kordei, Dinah JaneAlly Brooke and Lauren Jauregui - are set to release their first record as a quartet, since Camila Cabello's departure in December 2016.

The girls insist that the lyrics are all based on their own experiences and that they truly "believe" in the songs.

Kordei told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "We wanted to be raw and draw from our experiences.

"Every time we stepped into the booth it was something that we believed in, not something we were forced to sing. This is all us."

Two of the new tracks are based on their relationships but Jauregui insists they haven't drawn reference from her rumoured romance with Ty Dolla $ign.

And one track, "Bridges", knocks president Donald Trump's plans to build a border wall with Mexico. In the song, the ladies sing: "We build bridges, not walls."

Kordei revealed: "Bridges is our most personal song, because it's a commentary on what's going on in the world right now."

Ally Brooke explained why the new record feels more personal to them than their two previous albums, "Reflection" and "7/27". She said:

"It's cool because for this record we were able to be in pairs for the most part to write the songs.

"For example, Normani and I would go in to [the studio] and that's how we created "Messy"... so you kind of have that extra personal attachment when it's coming from you."

Fifth Harmony's new album, which is the follow-up to 2016's, "7/27", is set to be released later this month on August 25.

The foursome are set to be “special presenters” at tonight's star-studded 2017 Teen Choice Awards, which airs LIVE between 8:00 - 10:00 PM ET from the University of Southern California’s Galen Center on FOX.

The group are also set to perform later this month at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards, which will air live from The Forum on Sunday, August 27.
