Adam Lambert’s Fans, The Glambert Angels, on Supporting The "Trans Youth Equality Foundation”

Adam Lambert’s Fans, The Glambert Angels on Why They Are Supporting the Youth of "Trans Youth Equality Foundation”

The Glambert Angels are a fan-based movement founded by fans of Adam Lambert with the sole purpose of making a positive difference by spreading Light, Love & Hope to those in need.

The “Glambert Angels” collaborate with and offer support to registered charitable organizations worldwide by raising funds for specific projects and by raising awareness for the causes they support.

Adam Lambert’s fans are known for their generosity and support of the LGBT community. They have been actively gifting Adam’s music to LGBT Youth organizations since the release of his 1st CD in 2009. Last summer, fans gifted Adam’s CDs to PFLAG Canada Durham Region LGBT and Allies Youth Leadership Camp. The response was incredible! Fans from around the world donated CDs and autographed Adam merchandise.  The fans that organized the gifting efforts had been discussing plans for their next support effort and ways that they could do even more to show their support, to go that extra mile - and that is how the “Glambert Angels” movement was born!

The Glambert Angels 1st Project – The Trans Youth Equality Foundation’s Trans Youth Summer Camp Scholarship Fund.

The Glambert Angels’ decision to collaborate with the Trans Youth Equality Foundation as their first project was based, in part, on Adam’s statement that Trans Youth need our support now, more than ever.

On February 23, 2017, the Trump administration rolled back protections for transgender students. The Trans Lifeline (the first U.S. crisis hotline dedicated specifically to supporting the transgender community) received a staggering 379 calls that night – well above their daily average of 139 calls. Other LGBT hotlines saw a surge in calls as well. Statistics show that 41% of transgender adults have attempted suicide – 92% of those attempts were made by transgender people under the age of 25.

“We’re not OK with this happening to the Transgender community, say the founders of the Glambert Angels. We wanted to do more than retweet Adam’s tweet – we wanted to do something significant to show our support for transgender youth. By helping TYEF provide youth with scholarships to attend their Trans Youth camp, we feel we’re actually taking action and doing something to show Trans youth that we do stand with them – that we support them. We believe that sharing “Light, Love and Hope” is something we can all do to support those in need – this is a huge part of the fabric of Adam’s fandom.  Adam wrote a very inspiring letter to accompany his music video for “Welcome to the Show.” In his letter, Adam said that “We Hold Each Other Up.” Adam’s statement carries great significance with his fans. We want Trans Youth to know that we DO Hold Each Other Up!”

TYEF’s Trans Youth camp is a vital resource and life-changing experience for those that are fortunate to attend. The camp is a great mix of fun, self-reflection and a way to build confidence and community. Kids can choose kayaking, hiking, archery, swimming, arts and more, along with singing around the campfire. Great food and bonding are their specialties. The camp also offers workshops for youth 13 years of age and up. Topics such as Tran’s legal rights are amongst the workshop programs. Well trained staff, including medical staff, is available 24/7.  Youth attending the camps range in ages 7-17 (or until end of high school) Children from abroad apply for scholarships to attend the camps. Some are also in need of financial help to travel to the camp itself. The camp is a place where the children can feel safe, accepted and free to be themselves.  Lifelong friendships are made – many of the campers have said that their camp experience was “lifesaving.”  The camp’s volunteer staff and all at TYEF have such a deep love for the children.

“Trans Youth Equality Foundation is pleased to have the support of Glambert Angels as they raise funds to support our youth. We are very appreciative of their time, effort and compassion for transgender children.  This support will allow us to offer summer and fall camp scholarships to support our goal that every Trans child that wants to attend camp may. And that every child counts. Thank you Glambert Angels! Your support means so much to us! Adam’s fans rock!” Susan Maasch (Director, TYEF)

“By providing Trans youth with the experience of attending TYEF’s camp we are helping to arm them with the tools they will need to face the days and years ahead. In addition to the workshops, having a place where they can feel safe and bond with other Trans kids is so important.  Many of the campers haven’t met other Trans kids in their own hometowns. TYEF’s camp is a place where Trans youth can escape the harmful judgment they face on a daily basis. This means something to us –showing our support for Trans Youth.  We feel honored to be able to work with our friends at Trans Youth Equality and are grateful for this opportunity to support their youth” The Glambert Angels.

Within hours of the TYEF Youth Camp fund going live, funding to provide one full camp scholarship was donated to TYEF by Adam’s fans! While additional donations are being made daily, TYEF reports that they still have youth on their camp scholarship waiting list.
