HMV XBox charity 5-A-side Soccer Challenge raises £19,000 for Teenage Cancer Trust

HMV's 5-aside Soccer Challenge, which was again generously supported by long-term sponsors Microsoft, has raised just over £19,000 for HMV's nominated charity partner - Teenage Cancer Trust.

The annual fundraiser, which was staged on 11th May at GOALS Wembley, West London featured upto 40 teams drawn from many of the UK's leading music, film, games & technology companies. These included Universal Music, Sony Music, Warner Music, Universal Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox, Paramount Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Momentum Pictures and Skullcandy as well as such agencies as OMD, Libertine London and MMK Media and media groups London Evening Standard and Guardian Media Group. Pls. see Notes to Editors for full list of participating companies & donors to goody bags.

The tournament was won by the team from Sony Music, who came back from two goals down to defeat gallant runners-up OMD 4-3 in a thrillingly close Man City/Man Utd-style final encounter.  Well done also to their captain Ryan Slack for being voted Player of the Tournament by GOALS - Ryan was awarded an XBox 360 Kinect console courtesy of Microsoft. Well done also to the defeated semi-finalists - Guardian Media Group and Kelkoo respectively, for giving such a game account of themselves.

Courtesy of Laura Martin and Lucy Ward at Teenage Cancer Trust, additional entertainment on the day was supplied by Mike Delaney and Marc Cumberbatch who generously donated their time to put on a fantastic demonstration of their legendary football skills.

HMV's Gennaro Castaldo, comments: "We're incredibly moved by the wonderful generosity of all the participating companies and individuals, not just in terms of the financial and product support they give each year, but for their time also, which is an equally valuable commodity. Particular special thanks must go to Microsoft, however - they've supported this event for some 20 years now, in the process helping to raise well over £250,000 for our nominated charities through their sponsorship, which is a staggering total and incredibly generous of them. In so doing they not only help to raise awareness for charities such as Teenage Cancer Trust, and the critical work that they do, but they also help to create a wonderful football fun day out for many of our leading music, film, games and technology companies.

"So my profound thanks again to Microsoft as well as to all the companies that entered or sponsored teams and donated to the goody bags, and also to GOALS Wembley, Lois Southwick and James Fletcher at HMV and finally but not least Teenage Cancer Trust. We look forward to seeing everyone again next May"
