Halsey On Choosing Not to Attend the 2021 Met Gala
Halsey explained on Twitter yesterday (Sept. 14), why they didn't attend the Met Gala.
The singer-songwriter - who last attended in 2019, and gave birth to their first child, Ender Ridley, with partner Alev Aydin in July of this year - wrote a series of tweets in reply to a fan asking why they hadn't shown up at Monday night's event in New York.
Halsey said: "I’m still breastfeeding <3 I only had my baby 7 weeks ago. There’s nothing more 'American fashion' than moms having to go back to work after just giving birth lol."
The 26-year-old further explained that there was not a reliable way to pump at the glitzy party, "which would have been insanely painful. I understand I’m incredibly privileged to afford time off but the demands are still prevalent and the biology does not excuse me."
Just a few days earlier, Halsey had shared her struggles on Twitter about feeling comfortable in their body after giving birth.
Halsey wrote: "My pregnancy has changed my body so much. Learning how to have a personal sense of style when you’re not used to your new shapes has become a real struggle. To all the mommas (or really just anyone going thru something similar) I feeeel you. ❤️"
Halsey’s latest offering to the world, If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power – hailed as their best album yet by Pitchfork and Vulture and as “one of the best albums of the year” by Billboard – debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Current Albums chart, marking their third consecutive release to top the tally. The album is the follow-up to the Platinum-certified, Manic, which was released in January 2020.
If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power also topped Billboard’s Alternative Albums, Vinyl Albums and Tastemaker Albums charts and claimed the No. 1 position on the Spotify Top 10 Global Album Debuts chart.
