TV Studios (ITVS) has announced that its award-winning, record-breaking format Love Island has been commissioned in Denmark, Finland and Norway, taking the number of countries the show is now being produced in to seven.

TV3 has ordered the show in both Denmark and Norway, while MTV3 has commissioned it in Finland. ITV Studios’ local production labels – United Productions, ITVS Norway and ITVS Finland – will all produce the show in their respective territories. All three series will air in 2018, with Tone Damli today announced by TV3 as the host of the show in Norway and Shirly Karvinen confirmed as the host of the Finnish series.

The incredible launch of series four in the UK earlier this week delivered ITV2’s highest overnight rating since records go back with 2.9m viewers (peak of 3.4m) and a 16.4% share – the highest-rated show across ALL channels in the 9pm slot. Love Island Australia, currently airing on The Nine Network, also successfully launched last month where within 24 hours of airing, episode one’s digital Video Player Measurement (VPM) ratings via the network’s catch-up service 9Now were the biggest for an Australian reality TV show ever.

The new commissions mean that Love Island will air across the Nordics this year with Love Island Sweden also launching on TV4. Meanwhile Love Island Germany returns later in the year for a second series, after series one was the most streamed RTL2 format ever on TV Now.

Mike Beale, Managing Director, Nordics and ITV Studios Global Creative Network said: “From winning a Bafta and breaking viewing records in the UK to a hugely successful launch in Australia and winning these three new commissions, it’s been a brilliant few weeks for the format.

“We have already seen that it works equally well across linear, digital and catch-up platforms and we are very excited to roll the show out across the Nordics as a result. With a version of Love Island on somewhere around the world every single day between now and Christmas, we’ll look to build on the incredible momentum we have right now by continuing to grow the show internationally.”

Full of flirting, jealousy, rejection and fun, Love Island sees its occupants live the celebrity lifestyle in a stunning villa in a beautiful location. They are on the lookout for romance but as always, the road to love never runs smoothly, as they must not only choose their partner wisely but also win the hearts of the public. It’s up to the viewers to decide who they want to stay in the show as they watch the relationships develop and ultimately which pair they want to crown the hottest couple on the island.

Love Island is an original ITV Studios Entertainment format, co-produced with Motion Content Group, and is distributed internationally by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
