ITV dramas takes top five places for new and original drama launches in 2019 to date

ITV dramas Manhunt, Cheat, The Bay, Cleaning Up and A Confession are the most-watched new launches of the year.

Following the conclusion of Jeff Pope’s true crime series, A Confession, starring Martin Freeman as DS Steve Fulcher, Imelda Staunton as Karen Edwards, Siobhan Finneran as Elaine Pickford and Joe Absolom as Christopher Halliwell, ITV can reveal the drama series achieved one of the top five places for 2019 new drama launches.

Based on consolidated 7-day viewing, Buffalo Pictures produced Manhunt, which aired in January 2019 and starred Martin Clunes as DCI Colin Sutton, is still the most watched drama of 2019 with an average rating of 8.7 million viewers across each of the three episodes.

Closely following Manhunt is the four-part drama, Cheat, from Two Brothers Pictures with 7.2 million viewers which was stripped across a week in March 2019 and starred Katherine Kelly, Molly Windsor and Tom Goodman-Hill.

New drama launch from ITV Studios label, Tall Story Pictures, The Bay, starring Morven Christie and Daniel Ryan and set in the seaside town of Morecombe achieved 7 million viewers sustained across each of the six episodes. A second series of The Bay is now currently filming in the coastal town on Morecombe Bay in Lancashire.

In fourth place is the drama, Cleaning Up, which starred Sheridan Smith and Jade Anouka as cleaners intent on playing the Stock Market with knowledge gleaned whilst working for a financial investment company. Cleaning Up, produced by Sister Pictures, averaged just fewer than 7 million viewers.

A Confession enters the top five with a series average of 6.6 million viewers. The final episode, which aired on Monday 7 October, achieving the biggest audience of the series with 7.1 million viewers. The acclaimed series also generated rave reviews for the ITV drama from television critics and the viewing public.

BBC dramas Baptiste and Gentleman Jack hold the sixth and seventh places with 6.4 million and 5.7 million respectively based on 7 day consolidated viewing.
