ITV has commissioned a two-part documentary series, Joanna Lumley’s Hidden Caribbean: Havana to Haiti, from Burning Bright to air in Spring 2020.

The documentaries will see Joanna travel across two of the most enigmatic countries in the Caribbean – Cuba and Haiti – to explore, uncover and share the hidden gems that these countries have to offer.

Across two 60-minute episodes, Joanna will kick off her adventure in the back of a classic car in Havana, outlining her 1500-mile Caribbean adventure.

The twists and turns of history have seen these two Caribbean neighbours be colonised, populated by slaves, blighted by natural disaster and suffering sanctions and international isolation. Both countries are undoubtedly poor in monetary terms, but are abundantly rich in other ways, with cities full of colourful streets bursting with the rhythm of life, which then give way to unspoiled coastlines, pristine beaches, majestic mountains and lush forests.

It will be undoubtedly tough but also thrilling, as Joanna takes viewers on an amazing journey filled with tears and laughter.

Joanna said:

“I’m so thrilled to have had the opportunity to go on this adventure and show people a side to these Caribbean countries that they have never seen before.”

Clive Tulloh, executive producer at Burning Bright said:

“Joanna adores travelling and exploring and this genuine passion is the reason her shows are so good and so popular.”

Jo Clinton-Davis, ITV Controller of Factual, said:

“Joanna's enthusiasm for and curiosity about the countries and cultures she explores always adds a layer of interest and excitement for viewers - no more so than this adventure into the hidden wonders of these two remarkable Caribbean neighbours.”

Joanna Lumley’s Hidden Caribbean: Havana to Haiti is produced and directed by Ewen Thomson.
