Traffic Cone is unmasked as Aled Jones on tonight’s The Masked Singer

On tonight’s The Masked Singer semi-final Traffic Cone, Mushroom, Robobunny, Rockhopper and Panda all performed.

After the audience voted, Traffic Cone was unmasked and revealed to be classical singer and presenter Aled Jones.

TRAFFIC CONE Q&A

Had you watched The Masked Singer before?

Yes, I watched it all and I’ve even seen quite a bit of the American one. I love the idea behind it - bonkers and lots of fun.

Did you have a favourite previous character?

I loved Sausage, Hedgehog and Viking too.

What made you decide to take on the challenge?

It looked like fun and a chance to challenge myself with songs I’d never normally sing!

How hard is it to keep the secret?

Really, really hard especially when people start guessing it’s you! My phone has been buzzing non-stop! But I manage to throw people off the scent.

How excited are you for the big reveal and who do you think amongst your friends/family will be the most surprised?

I think everyone will be! I don’t normally sing music like Rick Astley and The Piña Colada Song etc and also I’ve never done anything like this before.

What did you think of your mask, your overall look and the character you got to play?

I love Traffic Cone! The best costume and character. He became real! He was a fun loving character with massive feet! It was very sweaty inside that costume though and hard to dance ‘cos I couldn’t see my feet!

Did you have a say in what your costume looked like?

All I said was I wanted him to have a kind face like Dusty Bin from the old TV show 3-2-1. The costume was everything I’d hoped it would be and I loved that I could kneel down in it!

How about the clue packages - what kind of input did you have on those and do you have a favourite nugget of information from them?

The clue packages were genius.

Were there any nerves when you first performed as your character or did being hidden inside the costume make you feel more confident?

I felt strangely more confident, it was just hard moving and singing in the costume.

What did you think of the panel’s guesses?

They were hilarious and so far-fetched! I was everyone from Olly Murs to Mr Motivator!

If you could wear your mask and costume just one more time what occasion would you choose to wear it to?

I might wear it on tour - that would surprise my audience!

If you could sum up your experience in a song title what would it be?

I went to the danger zone!
