OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

A year ago, Vladimir Putin shocked the world by launching a full-scale invasion of neighbouring Ukraine. But Ukraine was not immediately overcome and the country mobilised to defend itself. While millions fled abroad, many more stayed to face their invaders. Ordinary citizens became soldiers, redeployed to fight on the home front. Doctors and first responders became experts in battlefield trauma - the country was transformed by its war effort. With many weeks on the ground, ITV's Global Security Editor Rohit Kachroo has witnessed that transformation first hand.

One year on, Rohit returns to Ukraine to meet those he has encountered in that time and others whose lives have been fundamentally changed by Russia’s invasion. He hears what it has meant for civilians to fight in a modern war. From medics to soldiers to ordinary citizens - this is a portrait of country after a year fighting for its survival. How has it adapted and can it ever go back to life before?
